Perth 2008
The Western Australian Beefsteak and Burgundy Clubs, Perth and West Coast, held the 26th International Convention in Perth during the 7th and 9th March 2008.

The Convention was attended by 239 delegates representing 34 Clubs from around Australia; Hamilton, Kapiti, Marlborough and Wellington in New Zealand; and Tokyo, Japan.

The Friday night registration and welcome was held at Frazer’s Restaurant in Kings Park, a spectacular setting overlooking the picturesque Swan River. This provided the opportunity for delegates to sample the wines from a number of Western Australian wineries.

The Business Session was well attended. Several topics were raised and discussed including:
  • A review of the Affiliation Fees
  • Public Liability insurance
  • A proposed Bronze Medallion for clubs less than 25 years old
  • The costs to delegates of future Conventions
  • A Convention evaluation and feedback form
Future Convention presentations included Orange (2009), Wellington (2010) and Toowoomba (2011). The Darwin and John Bowen clubs raised interest in hosting Conventions in 2013 and 2016 respectively.

The Saturday lunch was held in the Matilda Bay Restaurant with a wonderful view of the marina and Swan River.

The Gala Dinner held on Saturday evening was in the Government House Ballroom, a most impressive venue. Five courses were served accompanied by a wonderful selection of Western Australian wines.

The Sunday farewell commenced with a cruise on the Swan River to Fremantle and then onto the “Oyster Bar on the Beach” at Port Beach for a casual lunch overlooking the Indian Ocean and accompanied by great company and a jazz band.

Congratulations to the Perth and West Coast Clubs on organising a most enjoyable Convention.
