The Orange Beefsteak and Burgundy Club hosted the 27th International Convention in
Orange during the 8 to 10 May, 2009.
The Convention was attended by 182 delegates, limited by other events in Orange at that time. Delegates represented 32 Clubs from around Australia and Wellington and Kapiti, New Zealand.
The Friday night welcome dinner was held at Turners Vineyard Function and Convention Centre on the outskirts of Orange. The
evening commenced with registration and the opportunity to sample some of the wines from the Orange Region, courtesy of a number of the wineries. This was an ideal way to commence the Convention and to appreciate this rapidly expanding wine region.

The three course dinner included Turners 2008 Chardonnay, 2001 Templers Mill Shiraz and 2004 Ibis Wines Sir Jasper Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc.
The Business Session was held in the Orange Civic Theatre on Saturday morning. The topics discussed included:
- An overview of the upgraded web site which aims to both provide information to members and to assist club presidents and secretaries
- The future of the Bulletin
- The 2009/10 affiliation fees
- Convention costs
- The encouragement of members to visit other clubs, especially when travelling
- Administration matters including generic name badges, bottle bags, the presentation of 25 and 50 year medallions
Future Convention presentations were made by Wellington (2010), Toowoomba (2011) and John Oxley (2013).

The Saturday luncheons for those participating were held at four different venues located around Orange: Borrodell, Mayfield, Highland Heritage and Fiorinis Restaurants.
The Gala Dinner held on Saturday evening was held in the Orange Function Centre and wonderfully presented by Edwina Mitchell Catering. The six courses were presented with regional
wines: 2006 Borrodell Sisters Rock Sparkling, 2008 Brangayne Sauvignon Blanc, 2004 Canobolas Smith Chardonnay, 2006 Printhie Pinot Noir, 2005 Mortimers Jules, 2001 Sons and Brothers Cabernet Shiraz and 2008 Orange Mountain Ice Viognier/Chardonnay.
With a great band and dancing a memorable evening was had by delegates.
The Sunday farewell lunch was again held at Turners Vineyard Function and Convention Centre. Again a very pleasant afternoon to wind up the Convention along with more regional wines: 2008 Patina Riesling, 2006 Canobalas Smith Pinot Noir, 2005 Brangyne Cabernet Sauvignon and 2003 Wellwood Late Harvest Semillon.
Congratulations to the Orange Club for organising a great Convention in one of Australia’s emerging wine regions, resplendent with brilliant autumn colours and sunny days.
