The Committee for the "Mystery Dinner" was Jenny Duggan and Di Jennison. Even the bus driver Henry did not know where he was taking us! Twenty one members and guests were picked up at the Visitors Information Centre and travelled north of Katherine to the old railway bridge. With a beautiful breeze on the bridge we watched the sunset and the Flying Foxes taking off for their evening meal while enjoying our first wine. Hors d'oeuvres and appetisers (home made stuffed button mushrooms and savoury apple meat balls with spicy mango dipping sauce) were enjoyed as the sun went down. We then travelled by bus to our dinner destination for the evening. We were dropped off at the top of the hill by the Katherine River and we all walked 300 metres into the bush setting for our dinner with a full moon for company. There we enjoyed an entree of barramundi, a main course of kangaroo and a dessert of brandy baskets with mango/lime and yoghurt/strawberries. Our wines complimented our dinner perfectly. The meal was catered for by Steve and the staff from the Kumbidgee Lodge. It was a lot of hard work and preparation for the Dinner Committee and a logistical nightmare for the caterer. However we have always wanted to have a dinner by the Katherine River and enjoy its beauty!! All who attended said it was a thoroughly wonderful evening.
